Comprehensive Chinese(Level 1) is a practical skill course for international students to learn Chinese. Through the instruction of language knowledge, skills, and cultural background, the course fully trains learners’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Learners are expected to systematically master Chinese Pinyin, writing rules and basic Chinese knowledge with the vocabulary around 600 characters. The course enables learners to grasp basic Chinese expressions and sentence patterns for daily communication, and understand the similarities and differences between Chinese and other cultures.

Comprehensive Chinese(Level 2) is a course for learners who have reached a very basic level of spoken Chinese and are capable of basic daily communication. This course is made up of lectures and exercises. The lectures are delivered through the introduction to each lesson, explanations on language points and important sentence patterns. The exercises include retelling, listening and speaking, and conversations, reading and writing that aim at improving learners’ spoken, reading and writing level. This course aims at expanding learners’ vocabulary, developing communicative skills in life situations, learning writing norms and habits, and promoting the understanding of Chinese tradition, culture and society. It targets at enabling learners to read and write the characters correctly, to be able to use the correct grammar patterns, to be able to communicate on familiar topics of everyday life.

Comprehensive Chinese(Level 3) aims at enabling learners to have a good command of more complex words, special sentence patterns, complex sentences etc. through dialogues practicing and short article reading. Learners may be able to deal with daily routines, achieve communicative competence, and further improve their spoken Chinese.

Comprehensive Chinese (Level 4) is a comprehensive course for intermediate learners. This course is made up of 14 thematic texts that enable learners to understand Chinese society and the differences between Chinese and other cultures. Through morpheme and idiom learning, and synonym analysis, learners are expected to enlarge their vocabulary and accurately grasp word meanings. The discourse and pragmatic learning will enable learners to further improve the learners’ ability of using words, organizing sentences and paragraphs, and understanding of Chinese people's way of thinking, so as to properly use Chinese and improve their communicative competence.

Comprehensive Chinese (Level 5) is a comprehensive course for Chinese learners of intermediate level. This course composes of 14 thematic texts that enable learners to understand and use Chinese through planned study and series of practices. Meanwhile, learners are able to understand China and Chinese culture. Through morpheme learning, synonym analysis and idiom learning, learners are expected to expand their vocabulary and accurately grasp word meanings. The discourse and pragmatic learning aim at enabling learners to gradually develop spoken and written Chinese skills so as to further raise their Chinese proficiency.

Comprehensive Chinese(Level 6) is a course which enables learners to learn contemporary Chinese culture, customs and national characteristics of a variety of themes and styles, and experiencing the use of authentic Chinese. Series of comprehensive training of listening, speaking, reading and writing will expand students’ vocabulary to over 6000, and improve their ability of analysis and use of these words. Intensive reading, fast reading and skip reading will make accurate access to the required main ideas and the ability to understand the true meaning of the author and the speaker. This course aims at developing students’ language competence so they may become competitive and qualified candidates for job-hunting either in China or in their native country.

Comprehensive Chinese(Level 7)course targets at enabling students to learn texts consisting of a great variety of contemporary Chinese culture, customs and national characteristics in order to have a good command of authentic Chinese language. Series of comprehensive training of listening, speaking, reading and writing may help students to develop a sizable vocabulary, and further improve students’ ability of using the vocabulary. Intensive reading, fast reading and skip reading may enable students’ accurate understanding of the main information and the ability to understand the true meaning of the texts. Through series of discourse training, students may learn the cultural and pragmatic use of Chinese language. This course aims at training students to become qualified applicants to find jobs in China.

Spoken Chinese(Level 1) targets at developing learners’ pronunciation skills, helping them to master the most commonly used vocabulary and grammar syllabus through classroom practices so that they will have the basic language skills and communication skills to survive in China.

Spoken Chinese(Level 2) is a practical language skill training course for international students. The course targets at enabling students to acquire elementary Chinese communicative skills, be able to understand simple Chinese speeches and conversations, and use correct pronunciation, intonation, proper tones, coherent sentences and appropriate words. Meanwhile, students are supposed to have a good command of basic sentence patterns in daily communication, be able to use simple Chinese language and express properly under daily Chinese communicative contexts by applying basic sentence-paragraph restructuring skills. Moreover, students are expected to achieve the preliminary understanding of cultural background and semantic connotation of Chinese language, as well as the initial capabilities of thinking in Chinese.

Listening and Spoken Chinese(Level 3) aims to improve the practical Chinese speaking and listening abilities of international students through learning real-life dialogues that are often encountered in daily life in China. Via the dialogues, teachers will also expose students to different facets of Chinese culture and communicative methods, enabling students to recognize similarities and differences in communication and cultures between China and their home country. Students will also be expected to complete the exercises and drills following each dialogue. The course ultimately to enabling students to greatly improve their practical Chinese speaking and listening skills.

Spoken Chinese(Level 4) targets at meeting learners’ needs to deal with more complex topics in daily life by requiring higher level of Chinese language skills, improving the accuracy of language use, completing the transition from sentence to discourse expression by differentiating synonyms and antonyms and using task-based teaching method in class.

Spoken Chinese(Level 5) is a Chinese language practice and training course for international students with intermediate level of Chinese language. This course aims at developing students’ spoken Chinese. It enables students to further improve their fluency through series of training and practices of typical language structures and sentence patterns. The practice of word expanding and functional sentences would help students efficiently and frequently use word families and sentence families. Classroom trainings vary from question asking and answering, summarization, topic-based discussions, pair works, group discussions, a conversation in pairs. etc.. The topics of each lesson are closely related to Chinese people’s daily and social lives. This course enables students to further raise their proficiency in spoken Chinese.

Spoken Chinese(Level 6) is a course for the international students who have a considerably advanced level of using Chinese language. The course targets at helping students in their pronunciation and overcome their foreign accents; enabling students to break through the bottleneck of Chinese language learning and have a good command of more patterns and a sizable vocabulary of a higher level; changing students’ habit of transferring the way of thinking from their mother tongues directly to thinking in Chinese; developing students’ abilities of Chinese logical thinking, Chinese interpreting skills through various drills such as Q & A, discussion, presentation, debate, etc.. Students are expected to speak authentic Chinese so as to further raise their Chinese language to an advanced level.

Spoken Chinese( Level 7) is a course for the international students who have advanced Chinese language level. The course targets at helping students correct the mistakes in pronunciation and overcome their foreign accents; enabling students to pass the bottleneck stage of Chinese language learning and master more patterns and words of a higher level; changing students’ habit of transferring the way of thinking of their own mother languages directly to Chinese, establishing their thinking in Chinese; developing students’ abilities of Chinese logical thinking, Chinese interpreting skills through various drills such as Q & A, discussion, presentation, debate and so on. Students are expected to speak authentic Chinese rather than so as to further raise their Chinese language to an advanced level.

Chinese Reading and Writing (Intermediate and Advanced Level) is a course to train and practice learners’ Chinese reading and writing ability. The reading part aims at cultivating the learners’ various reading skills through different forms of drills. The reading materials are selected from different walks of life in contemporary China characterized with various linguistic styles. As for the writing part, the selected model essays are mostly the Chinese learners’ excellent writings, and their contents are close to the learners’ life in China. The course intends to analyze the model essays’ writing texts, structures, and skills in a detailed way, and to guide learners to imitate writing. The course also introduces useful knowledge and skills in Chinese writing, so as to further raise the learners’ Chinese writing competence.
